After last night's games my record looks like this
Current Record.
P=2, W=0, D=0.5, L=1.5Hehe ... not a record to be proud of... My journey of a thousand steps begins with a backward start.
Anyway the 4 teams that are left in the tournament have been a class above the rest.
Manchester United's demolition of Roma resemble the way games were played in the 1930's where free scoring prevailed over defensive tactics. Giggs, Ronaldo, Smith, Carrick and Rooney were in marauding form as they teased the Roma defence with nearly every siege of attack producing a goal. Roma's hard earned result in Rome was virtually wiped out in 20 minutes at Old Trafford. Looks like Totti will have to eat his words criticsing the way English Football is played and comments that Roma will outgun United over the two Legs.
Chelsea meanwhile showed us that sustained pressure, a little bit of luck and never giving up will bring about success if we just kept trying. Essien's winner in the 90th minute looked GOD-Sent considering the fact that they look relieved to be only 0-1 down when the first half ended. Had Shevchenko missed his shot or Morientes had scored another in the first half, the Semi-Finals line up will not had featured 3 English Teams.
AC Milan on the other hand showed that you could win games with a good solid defence and brilliant individual skills with Seedorf, Kaka and Inzaghi running the show. The German fans at one point of time sounded so quiet you might have thought that they were playing in an empty stadium and the players look dejected after the 2nd goal. Only Van Bommel turned up for Bayern Munich in this match.
Liverpool basically qualified to the Semifinals based on last week's brilliant performance. The game was just played at half pace and PSV did not troubled Reina much except for an attempt by Farfan in the opening minutes. Crouch's goal has once again proved that this gentle giant has more to offer rather than just being a ball winner in the air.
The line up for the semis brings about an anticipation of another round of mouth watering ties. Chelsea and Liverpool (they've played each other more than any other team, the players must be getting sick of each other) renew their rivalry in the Champion's League. Meeting for the 5th time, we can't blame the players having the feeling of dejavu, at least the Liverpool players are hoping for a similar outcome of their 2003 Champion's League Semi-Finals Match.
Manchester United and AC Milan meanwhile will showcase 2 of the most brilliant players in the world today. with Ronaldinho somehow suffering a drop in form the past year, Christiano Ronaldo and Kaka had stepped up into the world stage with exceptional performances for their respective teams in the current season. Ronaldo has been tearing defences apart with his blistering runs, mesmerising step overs and an eye for the goal has made him virtually untouchable for the opposition team. At the other end Kaka has been a revelation for the Milan team. Not blessed with the speed of Ronaldo, however Kaka does possess superb footwork to outfox opposing defenders and blessed with superb vision of the game to produce defence splitting passes that often brings about positive results for Milan.
This year's Champion's League is one of the most exciting in recent years. Should the remaining 4 teams play to their true potential, there'll be no doubt that fans will be treated to a cracker in the remaining 5 matches.
